I shoveled too deep one day
Trying to unearth the answer to this
Algorithm question
A spade could only get me so far
So I picked up a chisel
I regret picking up the chisel
Because encased below the rock
Between the broken pieces
I didn't find a solution to my algorithm
I found you
I forgot you were there
And you weren't really there
Not alive
Not really
Just your fossil
Why did I leave you this close to the surface
As if I wanted to find you in constant time
As if I wanted to unearth those moments
Nice as they were
That are better left buried?
I'd like to put you back there now
I'd like to shove you back into the rock
And write my algorithm
I don't think the rest of the world needs to see
Your pretty fossil
I didn't mean to dig you up
I might have lied when I said
I forgot you were there
But I didn't expect your fossil to feel
So sharp in my hands
It would take an algorithm to find you now
It would take modern technology
To clone you back to breathing
I sigh and bury you and remind myself
Not to chisel in that spot.
